Survivor Recalls Friendship With Anne

On Nov. 27, 1943, Anne Frank confided in her now-famous diary about a
nightmare she had had the previous evening. The 14-year-old saw a vision of
her oldest childhood friend, Hannah Goslar, dressed in rags, her face thin
and worn from her internment in a concentration camp. Hannah looked at Anne
with sadness and reproach, asking her why she had deserted her, begging to
be rescued from the hell her life had become.
