Five Mission Indian Bands get shares of Colorado River water

ESCONDIDO, Calif. - Rincon tribal member Leo Calac, 80, remembers when his
grandfather struggled to obtain enough water to irrigate his family's
agricultural fields. Future Rincon generations will not have that worry.

A last minute-agreement signed by outgoing Secretary of the Interior Bruce
Babbitt Jan. 18 guaranteed that five bands of Mission Indians, including
Rincon in San Diego County, will receive 16,000 cubic feet or 5.2 billion
gallons a year of ...
