Tay-Sachs test is funded by Mt. Sinai foundation: Free testing for rare but
fatal genetic disease is offered
Since the demise of Mt. Sinai Medical Center, which for over 30 years
offered free screening for infantile-onset Tay-Sachs, fewer Jews in
Cleveland are being tested for this rare but always fatal neurological
genetic disease.
Recognizing the importance of this service, Dr. Irwin Schafer, a geneticist
at MetroHealth Medical Center, has reorganized the Tay-Sachs testing
