The roots of the modern West Indies
With the Caribbean Community and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean
States today formally and actively dedicated to cooperation, the big events
of the fateful year 1961 are fading from memory.
In September that year, the fledgling West Indies Federation saw its
largest member, Jamaica, secede. Next came efforts to see what could be
salvaged from the federation.
Trinidad and Tobago, the second largest member of the federation, had many
