Even as independent Jamaica turns 40 years old, tourism remains the
country's lifeblood industry. Competition from other countries in the
region has intensified, especially with Cuba taking strides to improve its
own product. Jamaica's efforts in tourism are being watched closely by The
Bahamas, whose Tourism Minister Obie Wilchcombe is also the chairman of the
Caribbean Tourism Organization. Below is an excerpt from an interview
Caribbean Today's Managing Editor Gordon Williams conducted with Mr.
Wilchcombe last month which focused on Jamaica.
