but in 1514, during the reign of Sultan Selim 1 (1512-1520) "On the
Acemoglu/SUNY Controversy"
This article is in response to two articles, the first by Ronald Suny,
titled "A Reply to My Critics" (February 12, 2000) and the second by Murat
Acemoglu titled "Reply to Professor Suny" (February 19, 2000). The gist of
the controversy has to do with the interpretation of the Armenian Genocide
of 1915; namely, was it premeditated, pre-planned and pre-organized, as
