Whether through a school-sponsored program or at home alone, 650 local high school students crack a code of sounds, letters and grammar they must understand and recreate in order to navigate a new world: English.
It's an enormous challenge, hard for many of their American-born classmates to understand. But several hundred foreign-born students have succeeded and will earn their high school diplomas this week.
