(The Vista) (U-WIRE) EDMOND, Okla. -- Radiation is energy discharged from an atom's nucleus in the form of particles or rays. It occurs naturally in the universe, but 20 percent of all its earthly sources are man-made.

Natural and medical radiation sources account for the majority of radiation to humans, said Dr. Evan Lemley, University of Central Oklahoma professor of physics and engineering.

He said "relative risks" should be considered when determining the dangers associated with radiation.
