SYDNEY, May 7 AAP - Deposed Iraqi president Saddam Hussein has survived the military strikes on Baghdad, according to a tape allegedly recorded two days ago and in the possession of a Sydney newspaper.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports today it has an audiotape allegedly recorded by the former Iraqi President on Monday.

Two men gave the tape to the paper's staff in Baghdad after failing to deliver it to correspondents for the Arab TV station al-Jazeera.
