Ellsworth Kelly Exhibit Marks Anniversary

A 54-by-90-foot work by American painter Ellsworth Kelly opened to the public Friday, occupying a huge wall in the atrium of the National Gallery of Art to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the museum's modernistic East Building.

The sharp angles of "Color Panels for a Large Wall" echo the lines of the building itself, designed by architect I. M. Pei. Kelly's work consists of 18 square slabs of just one color, each a slightly different shade of one of the primary colors or black.
