The 84th birthday of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was celebrated in the city, his birthplace at Tungipara in Gopalganj district as elsewhere across the country in a befitting manner and with great enthusiasm yesterday.

The main opposition Awami League (AL) and its front organizations undertook elaborate programs marking the day. They also vowed to implement the dreams of the assassinated leader, who was the hero of the War of Independence of Bangladesh in 1971, of turning Bangladesh a "Golden Bengal".
