NSW: Jacaranda city loses its trademark

SYDNEY, March 12 AAP - Storms have destroyed dozens of jacaranda trees, some up to 70 years old, in a northern NSW town known as "jacaranda city".

About 70 homes were damaged by falling jacaranda in Grafton, famous for its abundance of the trees which sprout mauve-coloured flowers in springtime.

Grafton City Council parks manager George Novak said the trees, some fully mature, were big enough to cause a lot of damage.
