The author was a scholarship student, and earned a degree in languages from Durham University in northern England. For some years she worked for a magazine group and wrote True Romance stories. Her fascination with sexual perversion and the dysfunctional types that populate her novels is fed by deep research done in her vast home library of books on criminology and psychology. To gain a sense of realism in her characters, she often attends murder trials, and for the past nine years has been "a prison visitor."
