A West African nation with an ailing leader, impoverished Guinea comes into presidency of the U.N. Security Council during a critical month on Iraq _ and finds itself courted by diplomats from the United States, Britain, and France.

Guinea is one of three African countries _ Angola and Cameroon are the other two _ that could sway the council's vote on a U.S.-sponsored resolution clearing the way for war against Iraq.
