WORLD SOCIAL FORUM: PORTO ALEGRE SENDS A MESSAGE TO DAVOS

PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil, Jan. 27 (IPS) -- The thousands of
participants going home from the World Social Forum (WSF) this week
were asking two key questions: When next? and where? They
proclaimed that after two years, Porto Alegre is no longer an event
but a process.
There is a new meaning to those questions now, after the
stunning victory of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in the
Brazilian elections last October and other progressive trends in
South America.
The left is in, at least in the southern half of the Western
Hemisphere.
