In New York tonight, the Martha Graham Dance Company begins its first
official season in nearly three years. The shows follow a bitter
legal battle over who owns the dances of the late Martha Graham.
Ronald Protas, Graham's legal heir and the plaintiff in the case,
says he owns them. In August, a judge ruled that the majority of
Graham's choreography belongs to the company she founded. Protas is
