BHP Billiton boss quits and sends shares tumbling

MELBOURNE, Jan 6 AAP - The shock resignation of BHP Billiton chief executive Brian Gilbertson rocked the finance world out of its post-Christmas lull today.

Former Billiton Plc boss, Mr Gilbertson, took over the reigns at BHP Billiton six months ago following the departure of CEO Paul Anderson.

He resigned on Saturday after a special board meeting was unable to resolve growing rifts between the two parties.
