PORT OF SPAIN, May 29 (IPS) -- Less than three weeks after a
hurried remedial summit that was supposed to clear up difficulties
between them, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela are headed for an
outright diplomatic confrontation.
The disagreement stems from allegations that Venezuelan Coast
Guard officers have brutalized Trinidadian fishermen arrested in
the narrow strip of ocean separating the two countries.
Yesterday, 20 fishermen returned to Trinidad after several days
in detention under severe conditions in Guiria Prison near ...
