KINGSTON, May 21 (IPS) -- The uncertain future of the banana
industry has pushed more farmers to try and cash in on a
non-traditional crop: yams.
That produce is gaining in importance here, particularly in
rural Jamaica as farmers look for alternatives while awaiting the
final World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling on the fate of
Caribbean bananas entering the European market.

European Union's banana import regime violates open trading rules
