AMMAN, Oct. 3 (IPS) -- The plight of a teenage Filipina migrant
worker under threat of execution in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)
is focussing attention on the problems of migrant labor from Asia
now working in the Gulf.
"It's called migrant labor," says Mark Covey of Anti-Slavery
International. "It counts as domestic slavery." The conditions are
often appalling and employers may prevent women escaping by seizing
the worker's passport or identity papers.
