WASHINGTON, July 27 (IPS) -- Dozens of Bangladeshi migrants have
starved to death in detention camps in Malaysia, according to
reports obtained by IPS.
According to research conducted by journalists at the Sun,
Malaysia's newest daily, 59 deaths have been recorded at the
Semenyih Immigration Detention Camp since it opened in 1992 near
Kajang, about 20 kms outside Kuala Lumpur.
The camp, the largest of eight in the country, holds 1,504 men
and 122 women from 24 countries. But more than half of these people
are Bangladeshis.
