Fed: Maralinga clean-up exceeded world's best practice: govt

CANBERRA, Aug 14 AAP - Federal Science Minister Peter McGauran today denied the clean-up of South Australia's Maralinga nuclear test site was unsafe, saying it exceeded world's best practice.

The clean-up operation has been criticised by nuclear engineer Alan Parkinson, who was involved in the process in the 1980s, and the South Australian government.

Mr Parkinson was removed from the Maralinga project after attacking the government's approach to radioactive waste.
