Scientist and author Stephen Jay Gould died today. He was 60 years old and had been battling cancer for years. Gould's work had enormous impact not just in his own scientific disciplines of evolutionary biology and paleontology, but on the public and public understanding of science. NPR's Joe Palca has more.
