Painting by Chinese emperor sold for dlrs 3 million in possible record

Dateline: BEIJING In what appeared to be a record price paid for a Chinese artwork, an 800-year-old silk painting of birds by a Sung dynasty emperor sold for 25.3 million yuan (dlrs 3 million) on Tuesday, a newspaper reported.

Tuesday's sale at a Beijing hotel had attracted considerable media attention for being the first-ever auction of a work by Sung Hui-tsung, the last emperor of the Northern Sung dynasty who lived from 1082- 1135 A.D.
