Russian Communists stripped of Duma posts
MOSCOW, Apr 03, 2002 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Russia'
s Communist Party suffered a humiliating defeat Wednesday as the once-
dominant political force was stripped of key posts at the head of
parliamentary committees, giving the Kremlin unprecedented control
over the lower house of parliament.
The State Duma voted 251-136 in favor of removing the Communists from
seven of the nine committee chairmanships they had held, leaving two
relatively insignificant positions under their control.
