ROME, Mar 27, 2002 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- The
battle between organized labor and the coalition government led by
tycoon and Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi over the way Italian companies
hire and fire workers is shaping up to be a fight over the future
of Italy's once-mighty labor unions.
The standoff was highlighted by the March 19 slaying of Marco Biagi,
an adviser to Italy's Ministry of Labor who is best known as the
