In a new book about country music there's a quote from Johnny Cash that questions the authenticity of modern country music. Recalling his youth in Arkansas, Mr. Cash says, `There a way of life produced a certain kind of music. Now,' he asks, `is a certain kind of music producing a way of life? Are the hats, the boots, the pickup trucks and the honky-tonking poses all that's left of a disintegrating culture?'
