Profile: Life in Bamian, Afghanistan, after routing of the Taliban

Nearly a year ago, the Taliban destroyed two giant statues of Buddha at Bamian in Afghanistan. They had been carved into a mountainside and dated back to the seventh century. Bamian is hard to reach; it' s set in a broad valley flanked by high stone cliffs. Our colleague Scott Simon went there to see how the town, treated so brutally by the Taliban, is faring since the defeat.
