Tas: Police asked to provide DNA samples for database

HOBART, Feb 11 AAP - Tasmania's 1,100 police may soon be required to provide DNA samples.

Police Commissioner Richard McCreadie has written to the state' s police association to float the proposal, designed to assist the investigation of crime scenes.

The police association has raised some concerns about how the DNA material will be kept and whether police officers' genetic material will be destroyed when they leave the force.
