Netherlands Antilles islanders vote for new government; elections focus on economy

Islanders in the Netherlands Antilles voted for a new government Friday
in elections that focused on the economy and the government's negotiations
with the International Monetary Fund, which led to budget-slashing
and job cuts.
Prime Minister Miguel Pourier, of the Restructured Antilles Party,
heads a coalition government and has been campaigning hard to fend
off challenges from the opposition parties. The Netherlands Antilles'
most important parties are based in Curacao, by far the most populous
with more than 150,000 people.
