Brazilian striker Marcelo Baron marked the new year with a golden
goal in the eighth minute of extra time Tuesday to lift Shimizu S-
Pulse to a 3-2 victory over Cerezo Osaka in the Emperor's Cup final
at Tokyo's National Stadium.
Baron took a centering pass from compatriot Alex and fired a shot
directly at goalkeeper Seigo Shimokawa, who was unable to control
the rebound. Baron quickly picked up the loose ball and calmly tapped
in for the winner.
"I saw the ball bounce off the goalkeeper and just tried to stay relaxed,
" said Baron.
