NEW YORK, Nov. 29 (IPS) -- A new study that connects blindness
with poverty also finds that two-thirds of the world's 45 million
blind people are women.
Researchers in India reviewed 10 years of published scientific
literature on blindness and have found that gender, education,
race, and income all play a role in eyesight loss.
Women in Sub-Saharan Africa, for example, are 40 percent more
likely than men to go blind, according to the researchers, Rakhi
