WA: Cocos island tourism dead, say operators

PERTH, Nov 30 AAP - The Cocos Island tourism industry has all but dried up following
the government's decision to house asylum seekers there, local operators said today.

Diving operator Karen Gerhard said numbers had dropped dramatically recently, mainly
because holidaymakers found it almost impossible to book seats on flights to Cocos Island.

Ms Gerhard said the flights were usually fully booked by Australasian Correctional
Management (ACM) staff, who were in charge of the 63 asylum ...
