Qld: Suspicions that mayday call may be a hoax

BRISBANE, Nov 15 AAP - Searchers were today combing a vast area off the central Queensland
coast for two people reported missing after abandoning their sinking catamaran, despite
suspicions the mayday call may have been a hoax.

Australian Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (AusSAR) spokesman Ben Mitchell said
the crew of the catamaran White Wash radioed at 1.45am (AEST) yesterday that they were
abandoning the vessel.
