Italy went into mourning Sunday after the death over the weekend of Giovanni Alberto Agnelli, the 33-year-old heir apparent and designated future chairman of the Fiat group.

Mr. Agnelli, an immensely popular national figure who was the nephew of Fiat's honorary president, Gianni Agnelli, died Saturday after a nine-month battle against a rare form of stomach cancer.
