Thousands are dead, more are injured, and millions of Americans have now seen devastating proof that the United States can and will be attacked by those who proudly declare themselves our enemies. And while no military is stronger, no nation richer, America still faces threats from forces it can do little to control. Our foes roam the world without compassion, without warning, and without restraint, ready and willing to do anything to destroy us.
