Melting polar ice threatens blue whales
BERLIN, Aug 07, 2001 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Blue whales, the largest-known mammals on earth, face possible extinction because increases in global temperatures are melting polar ice and reducing their food supply.
A recent publication of the World Wildlife Fund for Nature cautioned that krill, small, shrimp-like crustaceans that provide the main food supply for the blue whales, are disappearing because of the melting polar ice.
