Philippine Government, Rebels Agree on 18-Month Timetable of Peace Talks, XINHUA

MANILA, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Both the Philippine government and the National
Democratic Front (NDF) on Wednesday expressed optimism they can reach a
peace agreement in 18 months after their negotiating panels met on the
Solidarity Conference for lasting peace in Manila.
The NDF Chairman Luis Jalandoni said President Gloria Macapagal-
Arroyo's approval to hold the peace negotiations in Oslo, Norway, and her
commitment to recognize 10 agreement previously signed by the government
and the NDF augured well for the peace talks, the ABS-CBN news channel
reported.
