THE Nam Con Son sea basin gas project is pegged to become the backbone
of Vietnam's growing gas industry - when it finally comes on line.

Nam Con Son was scheduled to start producing by 2002 but a
PetroVietnam official said the opening day may be pushed back because of
sticking points arising in negotiations between project partners PetroVietnam,
BP Amoco and ONGC-Videsh Ltd.

BP Amoco holds 40 per cent, ONGC-Videsh Ltd 45 per cent, and
PetroVietnam 15 per cent of the project, which is based on a five-year
$1.5 billion investment commitment.
