THE need for knowledge workers is becoming more pressing as the country
shifts its emphasis from industrial-based economy to one that is driven
by knowledge or k-economy.

The switch from input-based to knowledge-based economy is translated
in a shift in the manpower requirement from production-based workforce
to an intellectual manpower.

Despite the current lack of definitive explanation as to what
constitutes a k-economy, generally it means the intensive use of knowledge
and technology in all economic sectors - high-tech and traditional - as
