Fed: Aborigines lead tributes for Sir William Deane

CANBERRA, June 28 AAP - Indigenous Australians led the tributes for Sir William Deane
today and described the retiring governor-general as the conscience of the nation on social
issues.

Sir William retired today after holding the office for five and a half years.

Politicians from all sides of parliament praised Sir William for his dignity, compassion
and role as an advocate of the disadvantaged and for reconciliation.
