In the late 19th century, an eye doctor from eastern Poland had the idea of inventing an international language of friendship. Lingvo Internacia, better known as Esperanto, was spoken by hundreds of thousands of people during its heyday in the 1920s and '30s. Today, there aren' t many Esperanto speakers left. NPR's Guy Raz traveled to the birthplace of the language's founder in Bialystok, Poland.
