NSW: Woman taken hostage by maximum security prisoner

A welfare worker was taken hostage in a Sydney jail cell today by a maximum security
prisoner armed with a knife.

The 45-year-old counsellor was conducting interviews in the common area of the maximum
security wing of Silverwater prison when the drama unfolded.

The inmate threatened the woman with a jail-made knife, and took her into his cell
where he held her hostage ...
