Friday, March 30, 2001 -- One day after Treasury officials said the budget deficit would be larger than the official target, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon yesterday pledged that the government would abide by European Union economic guidelines agreed at the 1991 Maastricht conference.
He also pledged to enact tax reform and dismissed the idea of intervention in foreign currency exchange.
