NSW: Matthew Flinders boats goes on display

SYDNEY, March 20 AAP - In 1796, 21 year-old master's mate Matthew Flinders set sail
from Sydney in a two-and-a-half-metre, single-sail, wooden boat to explore the east coast
of Australia.

A replica of that tiny boat, the Tom Thumb, went on display today at the NSW State
Library to mark the bicentenary of Flinders' circumnavigation of the continent five years
later, which made his name as one of the world's great explorers.
