In 1932 during the Great Depression, two white Southerners hit upon
a new idea in their quest to unionize workers. Myles Horton and Don
West founded the Highlander Folk School. Into the 1950s, as the times
and issues changed, the school turned its attention to civil rights,
and as Paul Brown reports, the school continues to influence activism
and social justice work.
