K.R. Narayanan set to become the 10th President of India

Vice President Kocheril Raman Narayanan last week became the near unanimous choice for president when the country's three major political groupings pledged support for his candidacy.

Narayanan filed his nomination papers for the presidential election on June 20 with Prime Minister I.K. Gujral and Congress Party president Sitaram Kesri by his side. Gujral and Kesri, apart from other leaders of the two political groups, proposed and seconded Narayanan's candidacy.
