"The Significance of Black Music"

Black Music Month is recognized by the music industry as the month of June, as good a time as any to recognize and highlight the contributions of African-Americans to this multi-billion dollar industry.

Black music, or American Black music, has its roots dating back to the work songs of the slaves in the 1600's, then with the blues and the music known as jazz. Music has been a part of the Black experience from the very beginning.
