Four Decades Ago, Nine Black Teens' Courage Rewrote History

The nine men and women who 40 years ago as teen-agers risked physical harm and endured racial taunts to desegregate Little Rock schools were honored Wednesday night for "their courage that would rewrite history."

The NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund commemorated the anniversary of the historic event in September 1957 with a tribute to the group that has become known as the Little Rock Nine.
