Like Pesach and Sukkot, Chag Shavuot -- meaning "Feast of Weeks" (Exodus 34:22 and Deuteronomy 16:10) -- is a harvest festival on which pilgrims brought offerings to the Temple in Jerusalem.

The same holiday, which begins this year at sundown Tuesday, June 10, is also denoted elsewhere as Yom Habikurim or "Day of the First Fruits" (Numbers 28:26), and as Chag Hakazir, meaning the "Harvest Feast" (Exodus 23:16).
